Individual Research contributions for Group Project (S10)

28 feb 2025

  • I looked into different technologies used in civil engineering to see which ones had room for improvement. After comparing their features and functions of various technologies, my team and I decided select the Microsoft Hololens 2. I suggested the Microsoft HoloLens 2 because of its potential in AR for construction.
  • To understand the product better, I read research papers, technical documents, and user feedback. I focused on display issues like flickering lines, interlacing, and aliasing, as these could affect usability. I also used AI tools like ChatGPT to summarize research papers, allowing me to focus on the key points of the product.
  • I took detailed notes on the strengths and weaknesses of the HoloLens 2, which helped shape our discussions on the problem we wanted to address.
  • During team discussions, I played a key role in refining our problem statement, making sure our research had a clear direction. I also helped organize our Ideal, Gap, and Goal framework.
  • To prepare for the pitch, I put together notes on how to effectively explain our research and solution. I also guided my teammates on how to communicate our ideas clearly when presenting to other groups.

4 March 2025

  • I was responsible for coming up with the whole table of contents for the design tech report, starting with the Introduction, followed by Solution and Benefits, and lastly Methodology, Evaluation, and Conclusion.
  • After completing the table of contents, I consulted my teammates and refined it based on their feedback.
  • I also referenced the sample reports that Professor Blackstone posted to ensure our structure was clear and aligned with expectations.
07 March 2025

  • We were tasked to complete the entire literature studies portion of the report by 07 March 2025.
  • As a leader, I delegated the various subsections to my teammates to ensure efficient completion.
  • I was in charge of completing the Introduction, Background Section 1.1.1, and Section 1.1.2.
  • Using my research from official sources like Microsoft, literature studies, and GAi, I completed my part for the Introduction of the report.
  • After completing my sections, I reviewed my teammates’ progress by checking their work for completeness, relevance, and consistency with our research objectives.
  • I provided feedback where needed and ensured that all sections were properly aligned before submission.

11 March 2025

  • For this week, we were tasked to complete the Solutions and Benefits portion of the report.
  • As the leader, I delegated tasks among Yi Zhe, Jia Rong, and myself, ensuring a balanced workload.
  • I assigned Nic to input missing figures in the Literature Studies section, as we had forgotten to add them earlier.
  • Building on my previous research, I delved deeper into the benefits and solutions of the Microsoft HoloLens 2 to strengthen our analysis.
  • I was responsible for writing the Benefits section, specifically Sections 3.1 (Product-Related Benefits) and 3.2 (User-Related Benefits).
  • I also started adding in-text citations to support our claims, incorporating them into Sections 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 3.1, and 3.2 to enhance credibility.

14 March 2025

  • For the mock presentation, I delegated the order of speakers based on team strengths.
  • I was the first speaker, presenting the background information.
  • I reviewed the design tech report, extracted key details, and wrote my script, refining it with ChatGPT.
  • I shared my script with the team for feedback and coordinated a Discord meeting to run through all scripts and discuss improvements.
  • As the leader, I ensured everyone met the presentation requirements and maintained professionalism.

18 March 2025

  • Based on feedback from the mock presentation, I refined my script and edited my PowerPoint slides.
  • As the leader, I checked all scripts and slides to ensure accuracy and alignment with the presentation theme.
  • I assisted Nic by helping him structure his slides and refine his script, as he was unsure of what to explain.
  • I helped Jia Rong format his slides and suggested adding a hook at the end of his speech for a stronger conclusion.
  • I advised Yi Zhe to reduce the number of slides and streamline his content to keep the presentation concise.
  • I organized a final Discord rehearsal the night before to ensure everyone was prepared for the presentation.

21 March 2025

  • Evaluated other teams' presentations and provided structured feedback.

  • Analyzed how they presented their technology, problem, solutions, and benefits to identify key takeaways.

  • Identified areas to improve clarity in our solution under hardware improvement, as it was too wordy and lacked conciseness.

  • Revised specific sections of the report, focusing on hardware and software improvements to enhance coherence and detail.

28 March 2025

  • Completed the Methodology section of the report, covering primary and secondary research, as well as the Conclusion and Executive Summary.

  • Had a Zoom call with Professor Blackstone to review our technical report.

  • Received feedback on areas for improvement and noted key revisions to enhance the report.

1 April 2025

  • Received feedback on my Executive Summary and identified a missing key detail, which was to state what the report flow covers.

  • Checked with Professor Blackstone to ensure the Appendix followed APA 7th edition; made updates based on his feedback.

  • Started adding in-text citations for the Introduction, Methodology, and Conclusion sections.
